How can we help you?
We believe that education and information are vital for good dental health. We have seen that patients who are well-informed and active participants in their own care have better outcomes, healthier teeth and gums, and even better health overall.
Please take a moment to look through our selection of questions we are often asked about our practice, the services we offer, and dentistry in general. If your question isn’t answered here or if you have additional questions, don’t hesitate to give us a call.
Family Dentistry
Definitely!
At our office, we treat your entire family. Dr. Reber and the team are great with kids, and kids love coming to our practice!
We accept most forms of dental insurance. You can confirm that our office is a provider for your plan by calling your plan directly, or you can call us and we will be happy to assist you.
The food and drink that you put into your body affects in your teeth in a number of different ways.
Sugary foods and drinks provide bacteria with the food they love, allowing them to thrive on the surface of your teeth and, eventually, create cavities. Acidic drinks (especially soda) weaken the enamel of your teeth, which can lead to tooth erosion. Unlike other parts of your body, enamel cannot restore itself. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.
Certain foods and drinks are known to cause stains on your teeth and will affect the appearance of your smile. These include coffee, tea, red wine, dark fruit juices, chocolate, and curry. Brushing your teeth or rinsing your mouth soon after consuming these will help to reduce the staining effect.
Your teeth are also affected by the nutrition you receive from your food. Teeth are bones, and like the other bones in your body, they need calcium and other minerals to stay healthy. Eating calcium-rich foods like low-fat dairy and leafy greens will help keep your teeth strong.
To keep your immune system healthy to better fight off gum disease and other oral health conditions, eat a varied, nutritious diet full of fresh fruits and vegetables and other foods packed with vitamins and antioxidants.
We are happy to discuss additional tips during your appointment to help you and your family eat right for a healthy mouth.
We recommend that you visit our office for an examination and cleaning every six months. If we feel that you would benefit from seeing us more frequently, we will discuss this with you.
It depends on the age of your child and whether they’ve received dental care before.
If your child is young and this is the first dental appointment ever, we’ll let them explore the office a bit, sit in the big dental chair, and see if they will let us take a look at their teeth and gums. If not, that’s okay. This appointment is mostly to allow your child to see a dental office and start to become accustomed to the idea that this is a safe place full of friendly people. We’ll discuss home care for young children with you and address any concerns you might have.
If your child is older or you are transferring care from another dentist, we’ll give your child a tour of the office, show them some of the tools we use, and answer any questions your child might have. We’ll then take some x-rays and perform an examination. A cleaning may also be included. Depending on what we find, we’ll plan future care and discuss brushing, flossing, and preventive treatments with you and your child.
A professional cleaning allows a trained dental hygienist to examine your mouth carefully and remove every last trace of plaque and tartar for your teeth. Think of it as your chance for a fresh start every six months.
Brushing and flossing at home is still important, of course. The more plaque you can remove at home, the less the hygienist has to remove and the quicker your cleaning will be! It’s nearly impossible, however, to completely remove all the plaque from your teeth with a brush and floss (especially plaque that hangs out beneath the gumline), and once it hardens into tartar, it can only be removed with professional tools.
Our hygienists provide thorough, gentle cleanings with great skill. Give us a call if it’s time for your cleaning – even if you’re overdue!
It depends a great deal on your insurance and your plan. Many dental plans will cover preventive care 100%, and most dental plans don’t cover purely cosmetic dental procedures. The best way to determine what is covered through your insurance is to read through the literature that is provided by your insurance company, visit your insurance company’s website, or call your insurance company directly.
We understand that navigating your insurance policy can be confusing. If you need assistance, don’t hesitate to give us a call and we’ll be happy to help you find out what is covered and how much is your responsibility.
